About Myron Guyton

Myron Guyton was a hard-hitting safety known for his speed, toughness, and football instincts during his seven seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.

Born in the small southwestern town Metcalf, Georgia, Guyton attended Thomas County Central High School, where he showcased his talents. His performance on the field earned him a scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University, where he became a standout for the Colonels.

At EKU, playing under legendary coach Roy Kidd, Guyton was a team captain and led the Ohio Valley Conference in interceptions his senior year. He was regarded as one of the top defensive players in the program’s history. His reputation as a fierce competitor with a strong work ethic caught the attention of NFL scouts.

Guyton was selected in the eighth round of the 1989 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Once in the league, however, he wasted no time proving himself. Guyton quickly worked his way into the starting lineup. During his rookie season, he was one of only two rookies to ever start for coach Bill Parcells, with the other rookie being future Hall of Fame defensive lineman Lawerence Taylor. Parcells faith in Guyton paid off, as he led the Giants in tackles his rookie year.

During his time with the Giants, Guyton helped anchor a defense that was among the NFL’s best where he played alongside legends such as Taylor and Carl Banks. He capped off a great second season by helping the Giants in a playoff run winning Super Bowl XXV, defeating the Buffalo Bills, 20-19. He later spent time with the New England Patriots, adding veteran leadership and depth to their secondary.

While with his time in New York, Guyton served with Tomorrow’s Children and during his time in New England, he helped with the Boston Boys and Girls Club. Following his NFL career, Guyton remained involved in the game and his community. Guyton is also a regular guest on the popular New York Giants Bleed Big Blue Podcast.
