About Cletidus Hunt
Cletidus Hunt went from overlooked to becoming one of the NFL’s most formidable and underrated defensive linemen during his career, leaving a lasting impact on the Green Bay Packers’ defense in the early 2000s. Despite facing early doubts about his technique and consistency, Hunt’s relentless motor, raw power, and ability to disrupt plays in the trenches set him apart. A constant presence on the defensive line, he became known for his ability to pressure quarterbacks, stop the run, and bring a tough, gritty edge to the Packers’ defensive front.
Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Hunt attended Whitehaven High School, where he showcased his size, strength, and athleticism. Despite his talent, he didn’t receive major recruitment out of high school. Determined to make his mark, Hunt signed with Kentucky State University, where he quickly became a standout on the defensive line. His combination of power and agility earned him attention from NFL scouts, even though he came from a smaller program.
Hunt’s collegiate success led him to the NFL, where he was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Over the course of his career, he became a key contributor to the Packers’ defensive unit. Known for his ability to make plays in the backfield, shed blocks, and collapse the pocket, Hunt delivered consistent performances that earned him respect across the league. One of the high points of his career came in 2002, when he recorded a career-high 5.5 sacks and played a pivotal role on a playoff-bound Packers defense. His ability to both pressure the passer and clog running lanes made him one of the team’s most valuable linemen during that stretch.
After retiring from the NFL, Hunt stayed connected to football and his roots, becoming an advocate for youth sports and mentoring young athletes. His off-the-field contributions reflect the same passion and work ethic he displayed on the gridiron.
