About Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones became a dominant force on the defensive line in the NFL after an All-American collegiate career at Eastern Kentucky University.
A disruptive and athletic defensive end, Jones made a name for himself at Eastern Kentucky, where he anchored a stout defense and racked up accolades. In 1987, he earned First-Team All-American honors and was named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year. His senior season was marked by dominance. Recording 40 tackles, 26 assists, and 12 tackles for loss, solidifying his place as one of the greatest defenders in EKU history.
His college excellence led to his selection in the first round (18th overall) of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jones immediately made an impact with his strength, quickness, and relentless motor, becoming a core part of the Steelers’ defensive front. Over the course of a nine-year NFL career, Jones played for the Steelers, New England Patriots, and Miami Dolphins.
Known for his consistency and professionalism, Jones brought veteran leadership to every locker room he entered. While his stats reflect a solid career, his greatest contributions often came in the form of setting the tone for defensive intensity and mentoring younger players.
After his playing career, Jones remained connected to football and the community. He was inducted into the Eastern Kentucky University Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015, honoring his collegiate and professional impact.
