About Maurice Moorman

Maurice “Mo” Moorman emerged as a standout athlete at Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky, where his combination of strength, agility, and football savvy helped lead the team to the state championship during his senior year. Honored as an All‑State and All‑South player, and even earning All‑American distinction, he quickly drew the attention of collegiate programs far and wide.

Moorman began his college career at the University of Kentucky before transferring to Texas A&M University, where he flourished as a dominant offensive guard. A First‑Team All-American (1966) and Second‑Team All-American (1967), he earned First‑Team All‑Southwest Conference honors (1966) and became known for his power in the trenches and relentless motor, graduating poised for the highest level of play

Selected in the first round of the 1968 AFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, Moorman immediately made an impact. Over six seasons in Kansas City, he started every regular-season game he played (72), anchoring the offensive line with consistency and leadership. His defining moment came in Super Bowl IV (January 1969), when his pivotal block on the “65 Toss Power Trap” play helped the Chiefs secure a 23–7 victory over the Vikings and cap off a legendary championship run

Durability was a hallmark of Moorman’s career, he suited up for 72 regular-season games, started them all, and added 5 postseason appearances to his resume He was also twice honored as an All-AFL player in 1969 (AP and Sporting News), highlighting his technical skill and impact.

After retiring from professional football, Moorman returned home to Louisville, where he founded Mo Moorman Distributing Company, bringing major beverage brands to the region. He successfully grew and eventually sold the business in 2007.
