About Chad Bratzke

Chad Bratzke played his college football at Eastern Kentucky University, where he was a freshmen walk-on for legendary coach Roy Kidd. He quickly emerged as one of the Ohio Valley Conference’s top defenders, twice earning All-American honors. His quickness off the snap and ability to disrupt opposing offenses earned him attention from NFL scouts. Despite coming from a smaller school, his talent spoke volumes, and he was selected in the 5th round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.
Bratzke developed steadily with the Giants, making a name for himself as a hard-nosed, physical pass rusher. On November 22, 1998, he made his first NFL start against the Cleveland Browns and delivered a standout performance—recording 6 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 2 quarterback pressures—helping New York rally from a 16-point deficit. That breakout game signaled his readiness to become a full-time impact player in the league.
He signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 1999, where his career reached new heights. Bratzke became a cornerstone of the Colts’ defense, starting every game for five consecutive seasons and serving as a vocal leader in the locker room. His best season came in 2000, when he recorded 12 sacks, earning league-wide recognition as one of the most productive defensive ends that year. He led the Colts in sacks for three consecutive seasons.
After retiring from the NFL following the 2003 season, Bratzke transitioned smoothly into post-football life. He remained committed to serving others, using his platform to support youth football programs and community outreach efforts. Known for his humility and work ethic, he became a mentor for young athletes navigating life after sports.
Inducted into the Eastern Kentucky University Athletics Hall of Fame, Bratzke never forgot his alma mater. His generous gift to EKU helped establish its state-of-the-art Student-Athlete Academic Success Center which proudly bears his name.
